"Lawsuits Filed Against Princess Cruise Lines"

The first wave of a possible flood of lawsuits was filed against Princess Cruise Lines late last week, just two weeks after a cruise ship accident left hundreds of passengers injured.

On July 18, 2006, the Crown Princess abruptly tilted 15 degrees to the left, propelling furniture and debris across the decks. At least 240 of the ship''s 3,100 passengers sustained physical injury, including bruises, fractures and broken bones.

Other passengers have reported experiencing emotional injury as well, including stress, nightmares, anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

According to a statement released by the president of the cruise line, the accident was caused by human error. A crewmember overcorrected in the wrong direction after misinterpreting an automatic pilot gauge.

Attorneys are expecting hundreds of lawsuits to be filed in the coming weeks, especially since the cruise line virtually admitted liability.

“I would guess most of the 240 who were injured are going to file claims against this line and so they should. It could be multi-million dollar verdicts,” said attorney Jack Hickey.
