"Concussions Cause Emotional Headaches"
While the physiological effects of concussions - injuries that occur as the result of trauma to the head - have been widely reported, there have not been many studies on the emotional effects of the injuries. Now, a new study in the April 2004 issue of the Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology reports that many people who suffer mild concussions experience significant emotional distress, including depression, frustration, tension, confusion and anger. The study, performed at the University of Toronto, found that the elevated mood disturbances generally subside within a few weeks of the injury.
