A Connecticut state trooper is claiming he was bitten by a police dog and is now suing the town of Groton and police officials. According to Trooper Michael Thomas, Groton town Officer Albert Smythe intentionally directed his bomb detection dog to attack him in October 2002. Thomas is also suing Smythe for slander after he allegedly spread false rumors about the dog bite incident.
An internal police investigation did not establish if Thomas did suffer a dog bite but it did find Smythe failed to properly control the dog. The dog bite lawsuit has been referred to the town''s insurance agent.
