"Medical Malpractice Birth Injury Victims Calls on the U.S. Senate"
Representatives of six families have been urging Senators to oppose a bill that has been introduced that would set a $250,000 limit on compensation for women and their babies that have suffered brain damage, disfigurement, mutilation, blindness, and other "non economic" injuries caused by medical malpractice at birth, in addition to other limitations. The legislation has never yet had a hearing on the proposed bill, but victims of birth injuries due to medical malpractice want to make sure the legislation gets rejected.
Instead of focusing on limiting the awards that punish medical malpractice victims, the representatives wanted to see the doctors that have already committed medical malpractices be reprimanded appropriately instead of being allowed to continue practicing and posing threats to other patients. Senate bill S. 2061 would instead help insurance companies but punish medical malpractice victims, according to the statements of the representatives.
