Continental Tire North America Inc. is one of several defendants in a lawsuit filed recently over the death of an Arizona Border Patrol agent in November 2006.
David Webb died of head injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident on Route 86. According to the lawsuit, the tread on the right rear Hoosier Radial AT tire separated, causing the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe to rollover.
Companies Accused of Negligence
The lawsuit claims that CTNA could have reduced the risk of tread separation by spending $1 per tire for cap plies, a textile reinforcement that reduces the risk of separation, especially when a vehicle is traveling at high speeds.
General Motors is also named as a defendant in the lawsuit. The company is accused of failing to provide adequate roof reinforcement so occupants aren’t crushed in rollover accidents.
Both companies are charged with negligence for marketing unsafe products and for failing to warn consumers of potential dangers.
The family of David Webb is seeking unspecified damages.
