drug_recall neurontinNeurontin anxiety is a rare side effect that can cause injury and suffering in patients who are taking this prescription drug. Pediatric patients between the ages of three and twelve are the patient population most likely to suffer Neurontin anxiety. Neurontin anxiety is one symptom in a group of side effects labeled emotional liability which also includes: behavioral problems, crying, a false sense of well-being, overreaction to stimulus, rapid and extreme mood swings, aggression, and hostility.
Neurontin (gabapentin) is a prescription drug originally developed by Parke-Davis and now manufactured by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer. Neurontin was first approved by the FDA in 1983 as an adjunctive therapy for partial seizure disorders and the treatment of nerve pain associated with shingles and herpes.
In addition to these approved uses, there are nearly a dozen off-label uses for which Neurontin is prescribed. Among these off-label uses are bi-polar disorder, pain syndromes, ADD, epilepsy mono-therapy, drug and alcohol withdrawal, and many others. None of these uses have been evaluated and approved by the FDA. Some of these uses have actually been rejected by the government because of side effect and other concerns.
Studies have shown that pediatric patients are at the greatest risk of suffering Neurontin anxiety and other adverse psychological events. In addition to Neurontin anxiety and other emotional disturbances, these patients may also experience thought disorders, memory loss, aggression, restlessness, and hyperactivity. These side effects can be particularly disastrous for this patient population, causing significant problems in family life and school performance capabilities.
In Neurontin clinical trials conducted on adult patients, nearly one in five participants had to discontinue their treatment because of adverse side effects including Neurontin anxiety and other emotional side effects, sensory problems, and significant physical side effects. In addition to Neurontin anxiety, this drug can also cause the following side effects: dizziness, fatigue, tumor growth, visual disturbances, tremors, edema, gastrointestinal problems, weight gain, skin sensitivity, amnesia, suicidal thoughts, paranoia, and sudden unexplained deaths.
If you or a loved one is taking Neurontin and have experienced Neurontin anxiety or any other unusual side effect, you may want to notify your health care practitioner of these adverse events.
If you have been injured by Neurontin anxiety or any other side effect, you may wish to contact a qualified and experienced legal professional who can evaluate your case to determine your legal rights and options in a case to seek compensation for your losses.
