Hydroxycut cleanse products — such as the "Hydroxycut Complete 7-Day Cleanse" and the "Maximum-Strength Cleanse Systems/7 Day Program" are not part of the 14 different Hydroxycut products recalled by manufacturer Iovate Health Sciences Inc. on May 1, 2009.
On the same date, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advised consumers to immediately stop using the following products, based on reports of severe health problems in 23 individuals and one death linked to Hydroxycut products:
"Hydroxycut Complete 7-Day Cleanse" is one of the 750 Hydroxycut products made by Iovate Health Sciences, according to a webpage they published to explain their voluntary withdrawal of the 14 above-listed products. The Complete 7-Day Cleanse is a relatively new product, a blend of more than 30 ingredients that are supposed to help a user's body rid itself of waste by supporting the body's liver, colon, and digestive system.
However, consumers' Hydroxycut Complete 7-Day Cleanse reviews note that there are plenty of similar (and cheaper) products already on the market, and that this product didn't seem very effective. As one Hydroxycut Cleanse user put it, "The only thing this cleaned out was my wallet!" The 7-day supply of 70 pills costs at least $20.
Similarly, the Maximum-Strength Cleanse Systems (for Men and Women)/7 Day Program cost $50 or $60 online. "Cleanse" products are not marketed as weight loss products per se; they're purported to eliminate the toxins and waste that are "bogging down" the body.
