Marketed as weight loss supplements, Hydroxycut - branded products have been in the recent news as they have been directly linked to serious injuries including liver failure, kidney damage and death. In fact, the makers of Hydroxycut, Iovate Health Sciences, issued a voluntary Hydroxycut recall May 1, 2009 following 23 reported injuries and one death linked to Hydroxycut use.

What is Hydroxycut?

Hydroxycut is the brand name of some of the top-selling weight loss products in America. Made by Iovate Health Sciences, Hydroxycut products are marketed as:

Truth About Hydroxycut

Because it is no surprise that American consumers are in a constant search for a way to get skinny fast, manufacturers of dietary supplements have been competing to produce such a product. Iovate, for instance, tapped into the industry with the production of its line of Hydroxycut-branded products. While Hydroxycut weight loss products have been marketed as weight loss supplements, they have also been linked to serious injuries and death.

To date, there have been 23 reports of liver problems and one death among Hydroxycut users. In fact, Iovate issued a voluntary Hydroxycut recall after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advised American consumers to stop using the weight loss products, May 1, 2009.

Hydroxycut Side Effects

The FDA advisory and Iovate recall were based on several reported injuries among Hydroxycut users. Some of the most serious Hydroxycut side effects include:

• Liver failure
• Kidney damage
• Jaundice
• Seizures
• Cardiovascular disorders
• Rhabdomyolysis (muscle damage that has the potential to lead to other serious conditions including kidney failure)

Symptoms of Hydroxycut Side Effects
