Gardasil lawsuits seek compensation for females injured after receiving a Gardasil vaccine, as well as for families of deceased Gardasil patients.

Produced by Merck & Co., Gardasil is a vaccine that protects females from certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is known to cause most cases of genital warts and cervical cancer, for up to four years.

Gardasil was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in June 2006 and, currently, is only indicated for use in females 9 to 26 years old. Research is still underway to evaluate whether the Gardasil HPV vaccine is safe and effective for use in men and in women older than 26.

• hives and/or skin rash
• inability to control certain muscles
• leg cramps
• loss of sensitivity of feeling
• redness, swelling or increased sensitivity in a localized area of the body
• seizures.

While the incidence of severe Gardasil side effects is rare (as over 40 million Gardasil doses have been administered worldwide), it is still significant. Here is a look at the prevalence of adverse events related to Gardasil use:

• Over 3,400 American females have had adverse reactions to the Gardasil vaccine.
• Nearly 1,400 affected females had to receive emergency medical care following serious Gardasil side effects.
• Of these adverse reports, about 1.4 percent of females experienced life-threatening side effects.
• Twenty-eight women have experienced miscarriage after receiving Gardasil.
