What is Gadolinium?
Gadolinium is a kind of dye, or contrasting agent, that is mixed with water and injected into a patient before they receive an MRI or MRA to make the scan result more readable. Recent research has shown a strong link between Gadolinium and the development of an extremely rare disease known as nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) in patients who have existing kidney problems. NSF is a serious disease characterized by the hardening of various organs. The condition typically affects the skin and may cause severe debilitation. However, in cases where internal organs are affected, the condition may result in death.
If you or a loved one has developed nephrogenic systemic fibrosis after being administered Gadolinium, you may be able to recover compensation for the losses you have incurred, including pain, suffering, medical treatment costs, and more. Please contact us today for a complimentary case evaluation with an experienced personal injury attorney who can inform you of your legal options and help you get on the right course to recovering your losses.
What is NSF?
Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis is a rare condition in which large areas of the skin—usually at the extremities—harden and become raised. Some internal organs may be affected as well. Other symptoms of the condition include:
Many of those who develop NSF become severely handicapped or immobilized as a result of the condition’s harsh effects on the skin. Because NSF can affect internal organs, it is sometimes fatal.
Risk factors for developing NSF after Gadolinium injections include kidney problems, blood clotting abnormalities, and recent surgery—especially vascular surgery.
