Fleet phospho soda is a saline laxative comprised of sodium phosphate and used to cleanse the bowels in preparation for a colonoscopy or to alleviate constipation. Sodium phosphate causes the intestines to dry out and create a bowel movement. Taken in liquid form and mixed with clear liquids, phospho soda begins to work within 30 minutes of the first dose to cleanse the bowels.

Fleet Phospho Soda Complications

Though it may appear harmless, Fleet phospho soda is anything but. A fleet phospho soda overdose, for instance, can lead to severe health complications. When taking the laxative, you must:

• Take exactly as directed
• Do not take more than the directed dosage over a 24-hour period
• Throw away any leftover solution

Dangerous side effects are associated with Fleet phospho soda, including kidney damage and even renal failure, particularly in patients with compromised kidney function, bowel disorders and the elderly.
