Phospho soda is a saline laxative composed of monobasic sodium phosphate monohydrate and dibasic sodium phosphate heptahydrate. Fleet phospho soda is an over-the-counter laxative that cleanses the bowels and helps create a bowel movement. Prescription versions are sold under the trade names Visicol and OsmoPrep. Phospho soda works by dehydrating the colon, forcing the body to produce a bowel movement.
Phospho soda is used to clean and prepare the bowels before a medical procedure such as a colonoscopy.
