Following reports of several serious injuries including one Enteryx death, Boston Scientific Corporation announced the recall of all Enteryx units and any surgical procedure involving the units.
The Enteryx device was a small amount of liquid that was injected into patients. The device was injected into the wall of the esophagus and turned into a sponge-like material once in the body. The injections strengthened this wall and helped prevent acid reflux from occurring.
Because of the precision needed in order to properly implant the Enteryx device, several cases of accidents occurred where patients were improperly injected or, as in the case of the Enteryx death, had the wall of their esophagus punctured.
The death was of an elderly female patient who had her aorta punctured because the needle was inserted too far. The woman''s symptoms were not immediately apparent and she didn''t die until three weeks after the Enteryx was injected into her. This makes the possibility of any patient who has had an Enteryx injection getting sick, very real.
To further compound the problem, Enteryx injections cannot be taken out once they are implanted. This is primarily because of their spongy nature and because they spread out in the body''s tissue. All patients who have had Enteryx injections are urged to see their doctor or a specialist immediately. Boston Scientific has agreed to pay for any visits to a specialist or any additional medical attention that is needed for patients who have had Enteryx injections.
Patients should not, however, sign anything from the company without first contacting an experienced Enteryx lawyer. A law firm can help patients received compensation for the possibility of harm or injury as a result of having an Enteryx injection, even if the patient has not experienced obvious symptoms.
If you have had an Enteryx injection it may be best to contact an experienced law firm before you do anything else. Most law firms will give you a free consultation regarding your injections and let you know your best course of action is. If you have had an Enteryx injection be sure to not sign or agree to anything without the counsel of a lawyer.
The possibility of an Enteryx death is a very real thing and could occur after the operation and without any signs of physical problems. Always contact your medical practitioner and a qualified attorney in order to learn about the potential risks involved in the procedure. Only with skilled and competent legal assistance can you recover any potential damages that may have already been done.
