Duragesic Pain Patches

Prescribed in the treatment of severe, chronic pain, Duragesic pain patches are transdermal systems that supply patients with a slowly-released, extremely potent pain reliever known as fentanyl. Nearly 100 times more potent that morphine, fentanyl is classified as a Schedule II drug, due to its significantly addictive properties.

The appropriate dosage for a specific patient's Duragesic pain patch will depend on:

the individual's condition(s)
the severity of his condition(s)
his medical history (including his history of taking prescription pain medications)

Duragesic fentanyl patches are generally only indicated for use in patients who:

require around-the-clock pain management
have a history of taking other, less potent pain medications
have a significant tolerance for pain medications
are still experiencing persisting pain, despite use of other pain medications
do NOT have a history of drug and/or alcohol addiction

Possible dosage for duragesic pain patches include:

25 mcg/hr (microgram/hour)
50 mcg/hr
75 mcg/hr
100 mcg/hr
