Digitek, generically known as digitalis, is a prescription drug used in the treatment of heart conditions, such as congestive heart failure and arrhythmias. Manufactured by Actavis Totowa LLC and distributed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc., Digitek can slow electrical impulses in the heart, thereby improving the heart's pumping action (for those with irregular heartbeats) and promoting better circulation. While Digitek did prove effective for some, in April 2008, Actavis Totowa LLC issued a press release alerting the American public that some of its oral digitek tablets may contain two times the appropriate amount of the drug's active ingredient, digoxin or digitalis.
