Users of denture creams have unknowingly been exposed to potentially dangerous levels of zinc though repeated use of the product. Zinc levels build up in the body causing a wide variety of medical issues. These products contain no warning labels, leaving the general public unaware of the problems associated with zinc toxicity.
Because many of the symptoms associated with zinc toxicity and denture cream poisoning mirror those of the standard aging process, it is often undiagnosed. Denture cream adhesive symptoms can include those associated with neuropathy. Neuropathy is a nerve disorder in which nerves outside the brain and the spinal column are damaged.
Neuropathy may initially include a mild tingling feeling in the extremities, and can eventually lead to a loss of sensation in the hands and feet. If not treated by a doctor neuropathy may eventually lead to total numbness and even paralysis in these areas. Nerve damage can also affect muscles, causing them to feel weakness and to atrophy.
Zinc toxicity, known as Hyperzincemia, can cause other problems besides neuropathy. These may include a loss of cognitive function, and an impaired immune system. Symptoms can include:
If cognitive function has been impaired there may be frequent bouts of confusion.
Zinc toxicity leads to the body being unable to absorb copper. This leads to a dangerously low level of copper in the body known as Hypocupremia. This condition can lead to serious medical problems including anemia and osteoporosis. Anemia has many of its own symptoms including pale skin, chest pain, frequent headaches and dizziness.
Denture cream symptoms related to hypocupremia can also include muscle weakness, labored breathing, and skin lesions. Others have experienced mild depression, irritability, and seizures.
If you or a loved one is experiencing denture cream poisoning symptoms you should see a doctor and consult with a denture cream lawyer. An experienced denture cream lawyer will be able to advise you of your rights. You may be able to receive compensation as a result of your suffering.
