Zinc May Be the Culprit in Denture Cream

Although denture creams (such as Poligrip and Fixodent) are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use as directed by their manufacturers, the FDA does not require the manufacturers to disclose the risks of using these products. However, several recent studies have revealed that zinc, an ingredient in denture cream, appears to have caused neuropathy in denture cream users.

Neuropathy's Severe Symptoms

For example, an August 2008 study reported in the respected journal Neurology described neuropathy among several denture cream users, with symptoms including:

weakness in the hands
poor balance
weakness in the arms and legs to a degree necessitating wheelchair dependence
cognitive decline
urinary incontinence
