In late January 2008, Stryker Corporation recalled its Trident Hip Implants. The recall came just days after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning to the company about quality problems at its plant in New Jersey. The hip implant components recalled in January were manufactured at the Stryker facility in Cork, Ireland. If you have a Stryker hip implant, it's a good idea to check with your physician about the source of the implant parts.
Possible Contamination Prompts Recall
The company recalled two hip replacement cups that are part of its Trident hip implants: the Trident Hemispherical Cup and the Trident Acetabular PSL Cup. The recall was issued over concerns that the parts could be contaminated by “manufacturing residuals.”
FDA Warnings
The Stryker implants made in Ireland have also been the subject of an FDA warning in March 2007. The agency was concerned about Stryker's failure to follow procedures for documentation and testing of problematic implants, among other issues. Another (November 2007) warning from the FDA focused on the New Jersey plant's lack of sterile conditions.

If You Have a Trident Hip Implant
Facing the possibility of another hip surgery to deal with a defective hip implant is an unpleasant prospect. If you have concerns about your Stryker hip implant, you should consult with an experienced attorney who can inform you of your legal options.
Stryker Corporation has recalled two Trident hip implant products because of manufacturing problems at the company’s Cork, Ireland plant.
