Donjoy Iceman

The Donjoy Iceman® is a device that pumps cold water into a wrap-on pad that patients can use in the home to treat certain injuries. Also known as cryotherapy, this form of ice therapy is widely used in sports medicine. The Donjoy Iceman® is an 8-quart ice chest that pumps ice cold water continuously through tubes to the cooling pad.

Patients use the machine to help with pain and swelling following arthroscopic joint procedures . The device provides ice therapy for up to seven hours. Manufacturers of the device claim that it is able to maintain the most accurate temperature out of all the devices in its class. It comes with a thermostat that allows the patient to adjust the temperature as needed.

Injuries Caused by the Donjoy Iceman®

If a patient uses the machine constantly for prolonged periods of time, he or she may in danger of serious injuries, including:

Nerve damage
Tissue damage
Frostbite
Chronic pain
Skin abrasions
