Crestor medication is used to treat patients with high cholesterol. Touted as a “super statin,” Crestor medication was approved by the Federal Drug Administration in August of 2003. AstraZeneca, the pharmaceutical company who developed the Crestor medication, has aggressively marketed this Crestor medication with over one billion dollars of revenue collected within its first year on the market. Critics of this Crestor medication state that this is a prime example of how aggressive marketing strategies can supercede medical science and common sense. These claims have been made about Crestor medication because this strong statin cholesterol drug has been linked to serious adverse health problems that are not being properly acknowledged and addressed by the Crestor medication manufacturer. Hints that taking Crestor medication might cause harmful side effects were present before this drug gained approval by the US government. A drug similar to the Crestor medication in form and function was recalled in August of 2001 because the serious health risks associated with taking this drug outweighed its intended benefits. Baycol was taken off the drug market when it was shown to cause a serious degenerative muscle disease in its patients. The Crestor medication also had troubles gaining approval from the FDA because of the health risks associated with taking the Crestor medication at higher doses. The government found that 80 milligram doses of Crestor medication were too dangerous to be approved. The FDA also put restrictions on Crestor medication doses at 40 milligrams of strength. The manufacturers of the Crestor medication have already issued statements about the serious risks associated with taking this cholesterol drug. People with a history of liver problems are cautioned that taking the Crestor medication can aggravate or further impede liver functioning. Crestor medication patients who have a history of liver problems should have medical liver function tests completed regularly during the course of treatment. Women who plan to become or are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised not to take the Crestor medication. Clinical trials conducted by the Crestor medication manufacture report that Crestor can cause significant birth defects. One of the most serious side effects associated with the use of Crestor medication is the development of rhabdomyolosis. This potentially fatal muscle disease causes the release of toxic chemicals into the bloodstream which leads to a reduction in the body’s total blood supply and the breakdown of muscle cells. This Crestor medication-related condition can lead to acute renal failure or serious damage to other internal organs.
