What is Papillary Adenocarcinoma?

Papillary adenocarcinoma is one of several types of sinus cancers affecting the glandular tissue in the sinonasal cavity. However, this particular type of sinus cancer is distinguished by a specific growth pattern in which tumors protrude from the lining of the cavity. Of all sinonasal adenocarcinomas, the papillary type is the most localized and also the one most associated with woodworkers.

Symptoms of Papillary Adenocarcinoma

Symptoms of papillary adenocarcinoma resemble that of other nasal adenocarcinomas and may include:

Nosebleeds
Nasal discharge and/or obstructions
Pain in the upper teeth
Sinus pain

Papillary adenocarcinoma is of low-grade malignancy and so it tends to be less aggressive than some of the other types of nasal cancers. Still, early diagnosis is key for a good prognosis. Treatment for papillary adenocarcinoma, as with other sinus cancers, usually involves the surgical removal of the tumor(s) followed by radiation therapy.
