All of these fentanyl patches included in the Actavis recall have expiration dates between May and August of 2008. The Actavis recall affects varying medication strengths including 25 micrograms/hour, 50 micrograms/hr, 75 micrograms/hr, and 100 micrograms/hr doses.
Actavis recalled patches display both the names of its current and former makers, Actavis South Atlantic LLC and Abrika Pharmaceuticals, respectively. The carton containing the fentanyl patches bears the name Actavis South Atlantic LLC, while the patch pouches have the name Abrika Pharmaceuticals on them. All of the Actavis patches that were recalled were sold exclusively in the United States.
If you are in possession of any fentanyl patches affected by the Actavis recall, experts advise you to immediately flush all of the product down the toilet. It is also advised that the patches not be handled directly, as this can pose the risk of exposure to dangerous levels of medication.
If you are exposed to the fentanyl gel while handling this medication, you should promptly rinse the area with lots of water but no soap. Contact a physician immediately if an accidental fentanyl overdose is suspected.
This is not the first time serious risks have been discovered regarding the use of fentanyl patches. Warnings similar to those issued in the current Actavis recall were issued by the Food and Drug Administration in 2005, warning of the serious risks associated with fentanyl patch side effects and overdose.
While Actavis, formerly known as Abrika Pharmaceuticals, states they have not received any injury reports related to the Actavis recall, it is possible that the patch defects could cause serious, and even deadly, adverse reactions.
If you or a loved one has suffered serious respiratory problems or death because of a defective Actavis fentanyl patch, you may be able to seek compensation for your losses and suffering. To learn more about the Actavis recall, please contact our qualified Fentanyl lawyer today.
