In February 2008, Actavis Inc., the U.S. manufacturing and marketing division of Actavis Group recalled 14 lots of the Fentanyl transdermal system CII patches. The voluntary recall was issued as a precaution. Working in conjunction with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Actavis recalled the patches based on a possible manufacturing defect that could result in a fentanyl overdose.
