Accutane® is an acne drug taken in pill form. It is used for the treatment of severe acne after all other methods of acne treatment have been exhausted. Made of isotretinoin, Accutane® is reportedly associated with birth defects and inflammatory bowel diseases. Complaints have been made regarding a link between Accutane® and colon cancer.
Accutane® is typically prescribed in doses of 5, 10, 20 mg doses, to take daily for four to six months. After this period of time, women must continue to use two forms of birth control and submit to regular pregnancy tests. Women who have taken Accutane® for acne may have an increased risk of having a child with severe birth defects.
Accutane® may lead to inflammatory bowel diseases including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis often leads to colon cancer. Due to the severity of the side effects associated with Accutane®, colon cancer and birth defects, the FDA requires that all patients who are prescribed this powerful drug sign a consent form after becoming thoroughly educated about the risks and side effects. As such, it is illegal to buy Accutane® online or without a prescription.
If you have taken Accutane® and have been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or another inflammatory bowel disease, or have been diagnosed with colon cancer, it is important to contact an experienced personal injury attorney to learn your rights. Many patients who have suffered from these conditions have filed lawsuits against the manufacturer of Accutane®, seeking to recoup compensation for financial and physical losses.
The FDA now requires patients prescribed Accutane® to sign a consent form. If you wish to speak with an Accutane® attorney regarding a potential complaint, send us an email and a legal professional will respond promptly.
